Uses
A biphasic insulin analog formulation indicated for glycemic control in patients with diabetes mellitus. It combines a rapid-acting component (insulin lispro) and an intermediate-acting component (insulin lispro protamine suspension).
Do not use if
Contraindicated during hypoglycemic episodes and in patients with hypersensitivity to insulin lispro, protamine, or any formulation excipient.
Side effects
Hypoglycemia is the most common adverse effect. Local injection site reactions, lipodystrophy, weight gain, and rare allergic or anaphylactic reactions may also occur.
Warnings
Do not mix with other insulin products unless directed. Monitor blood glucose closely when changing insulin regimens. Risk of hypoglycemia is increased with missed meals, exercise, or dose errors.
How it works
The rapid-acting component begins to work within 15 minutes of injection, while the intermediate-acting protamine-bound component provides a prolonged basal glucose-lowering effect, together mimicking physiological insulin secretion.
Storage
Store refrigerated at 2–8°C before first use. Once opened, may be stored at room temperature below 30°C for the duration specified in product labeling.
