Uses
Indicated for the topical treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis caused by susceptible organisms including Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Haemophilus influenzae.
Do not use if
No formal contraindications identified. Do not inject into the eye. Patients with signs or symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis should not wear contact lenses during treatment.
Side effects
Common side effects include conjunctival redness, eye pain, eye irritation, blurred vision, and headache. Systemic absorption is minimal with ophthalmic use.
Warnings
Prolonged use may lead to growth of resistant organisms. For topical ophthalmic use only; do not inject or ingest. Stop use if hypersensitivity or superinfection occurs.
How it works
Besifloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibacterial that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for DNA replication and repair, leading to bacterial cell death.
Storage
Store at 15–25°C (59–77°F). Keep bottle tightly closed. Do not use if solution has changed color.
