Uses

Used for rapid blood pressure reduction in hypertensive emergencies, controlled hypotension during surgery, and acute heart failure.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in certain forms of compensatory hypertension, inadequate cerebral circulation during surgical hypotension, and specific high-risk situations.

Side effects

May cause excessive hypotension, headache, nausea, cyanide toxicity, thiocyanate toxicity, and methemoglobinemia.

Warnings

Requires intensive monitoring due to the risk of profound hypotension and cyanide accumulation.
