Do not use if
Use with caution in patients on anticoagulant or antiplatelet therapy. Not recommended in patients with epilepsy as evening primrose oil may lower the seizure threshold. Avoid with known hypersensitivity to any component.
Side effects
Generally well tolerated. Possible side effects include mild gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, soft stools), headache, and rarely allergic reactions. Evening primrose oil may slightly increase bleeding risk at high doses.
Warnings
Patients with epilepsy or seizure disorders should avoid evening primrose oil. Discontinue use at least two weeks before planned surgery due to potential antiplatelet effects.
How it works
Evening primrose oil is rich in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an omega-6 fatty acid converted to anti-inflammatory prostaglandins via the DGLA pathway. Vitamin E acts as a fat-soluble antioxidant that protects against oxidative stress and supports the stability of polyunsaturated fatty acids.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Refrigeration may extend shelf life after opening.
