Uses

Used with diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in type 2 diabetes mellitus and to reduce cardiovascular and renal risks in appropriate patients.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in severe renal impairment, diabetic ketoacidosis, and hypersensitivity to empagliflozin.

Side effects

Genital fungal infections, urinary tract infections, dehydration, dizziness, and increased urination may occur.

Warnings

May cause ketoacidosis, volume depletion, and serious urinary or genital infections.

How it works

SGLT2 inhibitor that lowers blood glucose by increasing urinary glucose excretion.
