Uses
Isotonic or hypertonic saline nasal sprays are used to moisturize and cleanse nasal passages, relieve nasal congestion, and facilitate mucociliary clearance. They are indicated as adjunct therapy in rhinitis, sinusitis, and post-nasal surgery care.
Do not use if
No absolute contraindications for topical nasal use. Use with caution if the nasal mucosa is severely traumatized or bleeding.
Side effects
Generally very well tolerated. Occasional mild stinging or irritation may occur upon application. Hypertonic formulations may cause transient discomfort.
Warnings
For external/nasal use only. Do not swallow large quantities. Keep out of reach of children. Ensure the spray device is clean to prevent contamination.
How it works
Sea water (isotonic or hypertonic saline) acts mechanically to hydrate the nasal mucosa, dilute secretions, and restore normal mucociliary function. No pharmacological receptor interaction occurs.
Storage
Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. Keep the nozzle clean and replace the cap after each use.
