Uses

Used for symptomatic relief of the common cold and flu, combining an expectorant (guaifenesin) to loosen mucus, an analgesic/antipyretic (paracetamol) to reduce fever and pain, and a nasal decongestant (phenylephrine) to relieve nasal congestion.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients receiving monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of their discontinuation. Avoid in severe hypertension, coronary artery disease, and known hypersensitivity to any component.

Side effects

May cause nausea, dizziness, headache, or insomnia. Phenylephrine may elevate blood pressure or cause palpitations. High doses of paracetamol can cause hepatotoxicity.

Warnings

Do not exceed the recommended dose of paracetamol to avoid liver damage. Avoid concurrent use of other paracetamol-containing products. Use with caution in patients with hypertension, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or prostatic hyperplasia.

How it works

Guaifenesin reduces surface tension of mucus secretions, facilitating expectoration. Paracetamol inhibits prostaglandin synthesis centrally to relieve pain and reduce fever. Phenylephrine is an alpha-1 adrenergic agonist that causes vasoconstriction of nasal mucosa, reducing congestion.

Store at room temperature (15–25°C), away from moisture and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
