Uses
Used as an antioxidant combination supplement for the management of peripheral neuropathy, particularly diabetic neuropathy. Supports nerve regeneration and reduces oxidative stress.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any component. Use with caution in thiamine deficiency states as rapid repletion may precipitate metabolic complications.
Side effects
Generally well tolerated. May cause nausea, vomiting, or mild allergic skin reactions. High doses of thiamine are well tolerated; vitamin B12 is rarely associated with side effects.
Warnings
In patients with diabetes, alpha-lipoic acid may have an additive hypoglycemic effect; blood glucose monitoring is recommended. Individuals with thiamine deficiency should be managed carefully.
How it works
Alpha-lipoic acid is a potent antioxidant that scavenges free radicals and regenerates other antioxidants. Vitamin B1 (thiamine) is essential for carbohydrate metabolism and nerve function; vitamin B12 (cobalamin) is critical for myelin synthesis and neuronal maintenance.
Storage
Store at room temperature between 15°C and 25°C, protected from light and moisture.
