Uses
Used to relieve symptoms of productive and dry cough associated with upper respiratory tract infections, bronchitis, and irritation of the airways. Helps loosen mucus and ease expectoration.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the components. Use with caution in individuals with gastric ulcers or gastroesophageal reflux due to licorice content. Not recommended during pregnancy without medical advice.
Side effects
Generally well tolerated. May occasionally cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or mild gastrointestinal upset, particularly with high doses. Allergic reactions are rare.
Warnings
Prolonged or excessive use of licorice-containing preparations may cause hypokalemia and fluid retention. Consult a physician if symptoms persist beyond 7 days or worsen. Keep out of reach of children.
How it works
Ivy leaf contains saponins (hederacoside C) that exert secretolytic and spasmolytic effects on bronchial smooth muscle. Thyme has antimicrobial and antispasmodic properties due to its thymol content. Licorice soothes mucous membranes and has mild anti-inflammatory activity.
