Uses
This combination lozenge is used for the symptomatic relief of sore throat, mouth irritation, and mild cough. Eucalyptus and menthol provide soothing and mild antiseptic effects, while honey coats the throat and glucose provides a pleasant base.
Do not use if
Avoid use in infants and children under one year of age due to honey content (botulism risk). Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any component. Diabetic patients should exercise caution due to glucose content.
Side effects
Generally well tolerated. Excessive use may cause mild gastrointestinal upset or irritation of oral mucosa. Menthol in high concentrations may cause a burning sensation.
Warnings
Not a substitute for medical treatment if symptoms persist or worsen. Keep out of reach of children. May pose choking risk in very young children.
How it works
Eucalyptus oil contains cineole which has mild antiseptic and expectorant properties. Menthol activates cold-sensitive receptors producing a cooling sensation that soothes throat discomfort. Honey has demulcent properties coating and protecting irritated mucous membranes.
