Used for the treatment of constipation and to reduce ammonia levels in hepatic encephalopathy.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients requiring a low-galactose diet and hypersensitivity to lactulose.

Flatulence, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting may occur.

Excessive dosing may cause dehydration and electrolyte disturbances.

Synthetic disaccharide laxative metabolized in the colon to organic acids that increase osmotic water retention.

Store at 20–25°C. Do not freeze.
