Uses
Vincamine is used to improve cerebral blood flow and is indicated for symptoms of cerebrovascular insufficiency such as memory impairment, cognitive decline, dizziness, and tinnitus in elderly patients.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to vincamine, severe cardiac arrhythmias, or intracranial hypertension. Use cautiously in patients with prolonged QT interval.
Side effects
May cause nausea, vomiting, hot flushes, and mild hypotension. Rarely, cardiac arrhythmias including QT prolongation have been reported.
Warnings
Monitor cardiac rhythm in patients with pre-existing heart conditions. Not recommended as primary treatment for acute cerebrovascular events.
How it works
Vincamine is an alkaloid derived from Vinca minor that acts as a vasodilator and cerebral metabolic enhancer. It increases cerebral blood flow and oxygen utilization without significantly affecting systemic blood pressure at therapeutic doses.
