Uses
Used for depressive episodes associated with Bipolar I disorder and treatment-resistant major depressive disorder.
Do not use if
Contraindicated with MAO inhibitors and in patients with hypersensitivity to either component.
Side effects
Weight gain, somnolence, increased appetite, dry mouth, tremor, and dizziness may occur.
Warnings
May increase suicidal thoughts in younger patients and mortality in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis.
How it works
Combines an SSRI antidepressant with an atypical antipsychotic affecting serotonergic, dopaminergic, and noradrenergic pathways.
