Uses

Indicated for short-term treatment of active duodenal ulcer and other acid-related gastrointestinal disorders. May also be used for maintenance therapy in selected patients.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cimetidine or any component of the formulation.

Side effects

Common adverse effects include headache and mild diarrhea. Other gastrointestinal or central nervous system effects may occur.

Warnings

Antacids may interfere with absorption of oral cimetidine. Use cautiously in patients receiving multiple medications due to interaction potential.

How it works

A histamine H2-receptor antagonist that inhibits basal and stimulated gastric acid secretion.
