Uses

This combination ophthalmic preparation is used for the relief of ocular allergy symptoms including itching, redness, and excessive tearing. Chlorpheniramine provides antihistaminic action, naphazoline (alpha-1 agonist) reduces conjunctival hyperemia, and zinc sulphate has mild astringent and antiseptic properties.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, hypersensitivity to any component, and in patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors. Use with caution in hypertensive patients.

Side effects

Possible side effects include transient stinging or burning upon instillation, pupillary dilation, and rebound conjunctival congestion with prolonged use of naphazoline. Systemic absorption may cause drowsiness, palpitations, or elevated blood pressure.

Warnings

Avoid prolonged use of naphazoline-containing eye drops as rebound redness may occur. Not recommended for use in children under 6 years of age. Remove contact lenses before instillation.

How it works

Chlorpheniramine is a first-generation H1 antihistamine that competitively blocks histamine at H1 receptors, reducing allergic response. Naphazoline is a sympathomimetic alpha-adrenoceptor agonist causing local vasoconstriction. Zinc sulphate acts as a mild astringent and may have antimicrobial properties.

Storage

Store at room temperature (15–25°C), protected from light. Discard the bottle 28 days after first opening.
