Uses
Used for suppression of severe motor and vocal tics associated with Tourette’s disorder when standard treatments have been ineffective.
Do not use if
Contraindicated for simple tics not related to Tourette’s disorder, hypersensitivity, and use with certain interacting medications that may prolong QT interval.
Side effects
Common adverse effects include extrapyramidal symptoms, Parkinson-like reactions, drowsiness, dizziness, and nervousness.
Warnings
May cause serious cardiac arrhythmias and movement disorders. Careful monitoring is required during treatment.
