Uses

Indicated for the control of absence (petit mal) seizures.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to ethosuximide or other succinimides.

Side effects

Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, anorexia, weight loss, headache, and fatigue may occur. Rare but serious hematologic and hypersensitivity reactions have been reported.

Warnings

Periodic blood monitoring may be required due to the risk of blood dyscrasias. Monitor for signs of infection or serious skin reactions.

How it works

Reduces absence seizures by suppressing abnormal thalamocortical electrical activity associated with these seizures.

Storage

Store at 25°C; excursions between 15°C and 30°C are permitted.
