Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to interferon alfa, severe decompensated hepatic disease, autoimmune hepatitis, or a history of severe psychiatric disorders.

Side effects

Common side effects include flu-like symptoms (fever, fatigue, myalgia, headache), leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, depression, and elevated liver enzymes. Neuropsychiatric effects can be severe.

Warnings

Monitor for severe neuropsychiatric events including depression and suicidal ideation. May cause or worsen autoimmune conditions, ischemic disorders, and infectious complications. Thyroid function should be monitored regularly.

How it works

Interferon alfa is an endogenous cytokine with antiviral, antiproliferative, and immunomodulatory properties. It binds to specific cell surface receptors activating signaling cascades that inhibit viral replication and modulate immune responses.

Store refrigerated at 2–8°C. Do not freeze. Protect from light.
