Uses

Carbamide peroxide is used as an earwax-softening agent to aid removal of accumulated cerumen. It is also used for temporary cleansing of minor mouth and gum irritations, canker sores, and minor wounds in the oral cavity.

Do not use if

Do not use in patients with a perforated eardrum, ear drainage, ear pain, irritation, or rash in the ear without physician direction. Should not be used for more than 7 days unless directed by a physician.

Side effects

May cause local irritation, redness, or pain if used improperly. In the ear, excessive use may cause secondary infection or skin maceration. Swallowing should be avoided. Rash or swelling may indicate a reaction requiring medical attention.

Warnings

Do not use for more than 7 days without physician guidance. Avoid contact with eyes. Do not swallow. Keep out of reach of children. If swelling, rash, or fever develops, discontinue use.

How it works

Carbamide peroxide releases hydrogen peroxide upon contact with tissue, producing oxygen that mechanically disrupts and softens earwax or oral debris. The effervescent oxygen action also has a mild antiseptic effect.

Storage

Store at room temperature away from heat and direct sunlight. Keep container tightly closed.
