Uses
This combination of B-vitamins is indicated to prevent or treat deficiencies of biotin, folate, vitamin B12, and vitamin B6. It supports neurological function, red blood cell formation, homocysteine metabolism, and is particularly important in pregnancy for neural tube defect prevention.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any component. Use with caution in patients with existing vitamin B12 deficiency; folate should not be used alone to treat megaloblastic anemia until B12 deficiency is excluded.
Side effects
Generally well tolerated at recommended doses. High doses of vitamin B6 may cause peripheral neuropathy with prolonged use. Folic acid supplementation may mask vitamin B12 deficiency anemia.
Warnings
Folate supplementation may unmask symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency if taken alone. Patients with renal impairment should seek medical advice before taking high-dose B-vitamin supplements.
How it works
Biotin acts as a cofactor for carboxylase enzymes involved in fatty acid synthesis and gluconeogenesis. Folate and vitamin B12 are essential for DNA synthesis and homocysteine remethylation. Vitamin B6 serves as a coenzyme in amino acid metabolism and neurotransmitter synthesis.
Storage
Store at room temperature (15–25°C), away from light and moisture.
