Uses

A topical combination used for the treatment and prevention of infection in burns, chronic wounds, leg ulcers, and pressure sores. Panthenol promotes wound healing and tissue regeneration, while silver sulfadiazine provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in premature infants and neonates (risk of kernicterus from sulfonamide), known hypersensitivity to silver sulfadiazine or sulfonamides, and pregnancy at term.

Side effects

May cause local burning, itching, or rash. Prolonged use over large areas may lead to systemic absorption of sulfonamide with associated effects such as leukopenia. Argyria (skin discoloration) is rare but may occur with extensive long-term use.

Warnings

Apply only to clean wounds. Monitor CBC with prolonged use over large surfaces. Avoid use near eyes. Renal or hepatic impairment may increase risk of systemic sulfonamide toxicity.

How it works

Silver sulfadiazine releases silver ions that disrupt bacterial cell membranes and inhibit bacterial growth. Panthenol (provitamin B5) is converted to pantothenic acid in the skin, stimulating cell proliferation and supporting wound healing and tissue regeneration.

Store at room temperature below 25°C, protected from light. Do not freeze.
