Uses
Hypromellose ophthalmic solution is used as an artificial tear lubricant to relieve dryness and irritation of the eye and to prevent further ocular irritation.
Do not use if
Do not use if the solution has changed color or become cloudy. Contraindicated in individuals with known sensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation.
Side effects
Generally very well tolerated. Transient mild blurring of vision after instillation may occur. Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions to preservatives (if present) have been reported.
Warnings
For external ophthalmic use only. Do not touch the container tip to any surface to avoid contamination. Replace cap after each use. Stop use and consult a physician if eye pain, vision changes, or redness persisting beyond 72 hours occurs.
How it works
Hypromellose (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose) is a semisynthetic cellulose polymer that acts as a viscosity-enhancing agent, increasing the contact time of artificial tears on the ocular surface and thereby lubricating and protecting the cornea and conjunctiva.
Storage
Store at room temperature (15–30°C), away from direct sunlight. Discard after the labeled expiry date.
