Uses
Used for hypertension and to improve survival in selected patients with heart failure after myocardial infarction.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in severe renal impairment, hyperkalemia, and concomitant use of strong CYP3A inhibitors.
Side effects
May cause hyperkalemia, elevated creatinine, dizziness, and hypotension.
Warnings
Monitor serum potassium and kidney function regularly.
How it works
Eplerenone selectively blocks aldosterone receptors, reducing sodium retention and cardiovascular remodeling.
