Uses

Fenoprofen is indicated for relief of mild to moderate pain in adults, and for the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to fenoprofen, history of aspirin- or NSAID-induced asthma or urticaria, and in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft surgery. Avoid in patients with active peptic ulcer disease.

Side effects

Common adverse effects include gastrointestinal disturbances, cardiovascular thrombotic events, hypertension, peripheral edema, and hepatotoxicity. Serious skin reactions and renal impairment may also occur.

Warnings

NSAIDs including fenoprofen increase the risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic events, myocardial infarction, and stroke. They also increase the risk of serious gastrointestinal bleeding, ulceration, and perforation. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration.

How it works

Fenoprofen is a propionic acid-derived NSAID that inhibits both COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes, reducing prostaglandin synthesis, which underlies its analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects.
