Uses

A synthetic vitamin D3 analogue indicated for the topical treatment of plaque psoriasis in adults.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component, known hypercalcemia, or evidence of vitamin D toxicity. Should not be applied to the face.

Side effects

Most common adverse effects include burning, itching, and skin irritation at the application site. Erythema, dry skin, peeling, rash, and dermatitis may also occur. Hypercalcemia is a risk with excessive use.

Warnings

Contact dermatitis including allergic contact dermatitis has been reported. Avoid excessive use to prevent systemic absorption and hypercalcemia. Wash hands after application.

How it works

Calcipotriol is a synthetic analogue of vitamin D3 that binds to the vitamin D receptor, regulating keratinocyte proliferation and differentiation to reduce the abnormal skin cell turnover characteristic of psoriasis.

Storage

Store at controlled room temperature 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F). Do not freeze.
