Uses
A selective 5-HT4 receptor agonist used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastroparesis, dyspepsia, and delayed gastric emptying. Promotes gastric and intestinal motility.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to mosapride. Use with caution in patients with a history of cardiac arrhythmias or prolonged QT interval.
Side effects
Common side effects include diarrhea, dry mouth, nausea, and abdominal discomfort. Headache and dizziness have been reported. QT prolongation is a rare but potential cardiac concern.
Warnings
Monitor ECG in patients at risk for QT prolongation. Avoid concurrent use with drugs that prolong the QT interval. Not recommended as a first-line agent for nausea and vomiting without gastric motility disorder.
How it works
Mosapride selectively activates 5-HT4 receptors on cholinergic nerve terminals in the gastrointestinal tract, enhancing acetylcholine release and thereby increasing gastrointestinal motility, accelerating gastric emptying, and reducing reflux.
Storage
Store below 30°C, away from moisture and direct sunlight.
