Uses
Used with diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in severe renal impairment, metabolic acidosis, and NYHA class III or IV heart failure.
Side effects
Weight gain, edema, diarrhea, nausea, and hypoglycemia with certain combinations may occur.

Monitor for lactic acidosis, heart failure, edema, and liver dysfunction.
