Uses
Used to reduce LDL cholesterol and cardiovascular risk in patients with hypercholesterolemia or familial hypercholesterolemia. It is also used to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in high-risk adults.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients with a history of serious hypersensitivity reactions to evolocumab or its components.
Side effects
Common effects include nasopharyngitis, upper respiratory infections, influenza-like symptoms, back pain, and injection-site reactions.
Warnings
Serious hypersensitivity reactions including angioedema may occur. Discontinue treatment if significant allergic reactions develop.
How it works
A monoclonal antibody that inhibits PCSK9, increasing LDL receptor availability and enhancing clearance of LDL cholesterol from the blood.
