Uses
Used with other immunosuppressants to prevent rejection of kidney, heart, and liver transplants.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to mycophenolate mofetil or mycophenolic acid.
Side effects
May cause infections, diarrhea, nausea, leukopenia, anemia, and increased risk of malignancy.
Warnings
Associated with serious infections, malignancies, and severe fetal harm during pregnancy.
How it works
It is converted to mycophenolic acid, which inhibits inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase and suppresses lymphocyte proliferation.
