Uses

Herbal drink formulation used traditionally to relieve infantile colic, flatulence, and digestive discomfort. Commonly used in neonates and infants as a carminative and mild antispasmodic preparation.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in infants with known allergy to any of the herbal components, particularly those sensitive to plants of the Asteraceae (daisy) family. Lactose-containing formulations are contraindicated in infants with galactosemia or primary lactase deficiency.

Side effects

Generally considered safe at recommended doses for infants. Allergic reactions are rare but possible, particularly with chamomile in individuals sensitive to Asteraceae plants. Excessive consumption may cause loose stools.

Warnings

Ensure correct preparation according to manufacturer instructions. Do not exceed recommended daily amount. Consult a pediatrician if colic symptoms persist beyond 3 months or are severe. Ensure adequate hydration in infants.

How it works

The volatile oils present in anise (anethole), fennel, and caraway relax intestinal smooth muscle and reduce intestinal gas through carminative effects. Chamomile contributes anti-inflammatory and mild antispasmodic properties via apigenin and related flavonoids. Lactose and maltodextrin serve as carriers and excipients.
