Uses

Gadoteric acid with meglumine is a macrocyclic gadolinium-based contrast agent used for contrast-enhanced MRI of the brain, spine, and body. It improves visualization of lesions with abnormal vascularity or disruption of the blood-brain barrier.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to gadoteric acid or any excipients. Use with caution in severe renal impairment (eGFR <30 mL/min) due to risk of nephrogenic systemic fibrosis.

Side effects

Common adverse effects include nausea, headache, and injection-site reactions. Hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylaxis may rarely occur. Nephrogenic systemic fibrosis has been associated with gadolinium-based agents in patients with severe renal impairment.

Warnings

Gadolinium retention in brain and other tissues may occur with repeated doses; clinical significance is uncertain. Screen for renal impairment before administration. Have resuscitation equipment available due to risk of anaphylaxis.

How it works

Gadoteric acid is a macrocyclic ionic gadolinium chelate. It shortens T1 and T2 relaxation times in tissues, thereby enhancing MRI signal. The macrocyclic structure confers high thermodynamic and kinetic stability, reducing free gadolinium release.

Storage

Store below 30°C, protected from light. Do not freeze. Single-use vials; discard any unused portion.
