Uses
Used for complicated intra-abdominal infections, complicated urinary tract infections, hospital-acquired pneumonia, and susceptible multidrug-resistant bacterial infections.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients with severe hypersensitivity to cephalosporins, avibactam, or beta-lactam antibiotics.
Side effects
May cause nausea, diarrhea, headache, rash, or elevated liver enzymes.
Warnings
Use only for confirmed or strongly suspected bacterial infections. Monitor renal function.
How it works
Ceftazidime inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, while avibactam inhibits certain beta-lactamases that cause resistance.
