Uses

This combination is indicated for inflammatory skin conditions complicated by bacterial or fungal infection, such as infected eczema, intertrigo, and dermatomycosis with associated inflammation.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in rosacea, acne vulgaris, perioral dermatitis, untreated viral or tubercular skin infections, and known hypersensitivity to any component. Avoid use on the face and in large surface areas for extended periods.

Side effects

Topical betamethasone may cause skin atrophy, striae, telangiectasia, and adrenal suppression with prolonged use. Clioquinol may cause skin staining and, rarely, contact sensitization. Systemic absorption is increased under occlusion.

Warnings

Avoid prolonged use, especially in children, due to the risk of HPA axis suppression. Do not use under occlusion unless directed. The iodine in clioquinol may interfere with thyroid function tests.

How it works

Betamethasone is a potent fluorinated topical corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects mediated through glucocorticoid receptors. Clioquinol (iodochlorhydroxyquin) is an antimicrobial agent with activity against dermatophytes, yeasts, and some bacteria.

Storage

Store below 25°C away from light and moisture. Do not refrigerate.
