Uses

Used topically as a rubefacient and analgesic for temporary relief of minor muscle aches, joint pain, and sprains. Also provides a cooling sensation that may assist in relieving nasal congestion when applied to the chest.

Do not use if

Contraindicated for use on damaged, broken, or inflamed skin. Should not be applied near the eyes or mucous membranes. Avoid use in infants and young children, particularly near the face.

Side effects

May cause local skin irritation, redness, or burning sensation at the application site. Camphor may be toxic if ingested or applied to broken skin. Rarely, allergic contact dermatitis may occur.

Warnings

For external use only. Camphor is highly toxic if swallowed and can cause seizures in children. Do not apply to the nostrils of infants. Avoid contact with eyes.

How it works

Camphor activates TRPV1 and TRPM8 receptors producing warming followed by cooling sensations and acts as a mild counterirritant. Menthol selectively activates TRPM8 cold receptors creating a cooling analgesic effect. Eucalyptus oil has mild anti-inflammatory and decongestant properties via cineole.

Store at room temperature below 25°C, away from heat and open flames. Keep tightly closed.
