Uses
Menaquinone-7 (Vitamin K2) is used as a dietary supplement to support bone health and cardiovascular function. It assists in the carboxylation of bone proteins such as osteocalcin and promotes calcium deposition in bone while reducing arterial calcification.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients taking vitamin K antagonists such as warfarin, as it may counteract anticoagulant therapy. Use with caution in patients with coagulation disorders.
Side effects
Menaquinone-7 is generally well tolerated. Rarely reported effects include mild gastrointestinal discomfort. No significant adverse effects have been established at typical supplemental doses.
Warnings
Patients on anticoagulant therapy should avoid supplementation without medical supervision. Consult a healthcare provider before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
How it works
Vitamin K2 (MK-7) is a fat-soluble vitamin that acts as a cofactor for the gamma-glutamyl carboxylase enzyme, enabling the carboxylation and activation of vitamin K-dependent proteins involved in coagulation and bone metabolism. MK-7 has superior bioavailability and a longer half-life compared to other menaquinones.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
