Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to zafirlukast or any of its inactive ingredients, and in patients with hepatic impairment including hepatic cirrhosis.

Common side effects include headache, nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Rare but serious hepatotoxicity has been reported. Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (Churg-Strauss syndrome) has been observed rarely, typically when systemic corticosteroids were being tapered.

Hepatotoxicity including life-threatening hepatic failure has been reported; monitor liver function and advise patients to report symptoms of hepatic dysfunction. Not to be used for acute asthma attacks. Systemic eosinophilia and vasculitis should be monitored in patients tapering oral corticosteroids.

How it works

Zafirlukast is a selective and competitive receptor antagonist of leukotriene D4 and E4 (LTD4 and LTE4), components of slow-reacting substance of anaphylaxis. By blocking cysteinyl leukotriene receptors, it reduces airway edema, smooth muscle contraction, and inflammatory cell activity in asthmatic airways.

Storage

Store at controlled room temperature between 20°C and 25°C. Protect from light and humidity. Keep out of reach of children.
