Uses

Used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Do not use if

History of severe hypersensitivity to exenatide or its components, or drug-induced immune-mediated thrombocytopenia associated with exenatide.

Side effects

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, injection-site reactions, and hypoglycemia when used with insulin or insulin secretagogues may occur. Pancreatitis has been reported.

Warnings

Monitor for signs of pancreatitis and severe hypersensitivity reactions. Do not share injection pens between patients.

How it works

A GLP-1 receptor agonist that enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppresses glucagon secretion, and slows gastric emptying.

Storage

Store refrigerated at 2°C–8°C before use. Protect from excessive heat and freezing.
