Uses
Oxaprozin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) indicated for the relief of signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
Do not use if
Known hypersensitivity to oxaprozin or any NSAID. History of asthma, urticaria, or severe allergic reactions to aspirin or other NSAIDs. Contraindicated in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.
Side effects
Common side effects include dyspepsia, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, and dizziness. Serious risks include cardiovascular thrombotic events, GI bleeding and ulceration, hepatotoxicity, hypertension, heart failure, and acute kidney injury.
Warnings
NSAIDs increase the risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic events and fatal GI bleeding. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration. Avoid in late pregnancy (from 20 weeks gestation). Monitor renal function, blood pressure, and hepatic enzymes during therapy.
How it works
Oxaprozin inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), reducing prostaglandin synthesis and thereby exerting analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects. It has a long half-life (approximately 40–60 hours), allowing once-daily dosing.
Storage
Store at room temperature (20–25°C) in a tight, light-resistant container away from moisture.
