Uses
Used for moderately to severely active Crohn's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis. It reduces signs and symptoms of inflammatory diseases.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients with serious hypersensitivity to certolizumab pegol or any component of the formulation.
Side effects
Common effects include upper respiratory infections, rash, and injection-site reactions. Serious risks include severe infections, malignancies, hypersensitivity reactions, heart failure, and hepatitis B reactivation.
Warnings
Screen for tuberculosis and hepatitis B before treatment. Monitor for serious infections, malignancies, neurologic disorders, and heart failure.
How it works
A pegylated monoclonal antibody fragment that selectively binds and neutralizes tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), reducing inflammation.
