Uses

This combination of iron, lactoferrin, and vitamin C is used as a nutritional supplement to prevent and treat iron-deficiency anemia, with lactoferrin enhancing iron bioavailability and vitamin C promoting intestinal iron absorption.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis, or other iron overload conditions. Use with caution in patients with active peptic ulcer or inflammatory bowel disease.

Side effects

Iron supplements may cause gastrointestinal discomfort, constipation, nausea, or dark stools. Lactoferrin is generally well tolerated. High-dose vitamin C may cause GI upset.

Warnings

Accidental overdose of iron-containing products is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in young children; keep out of reach of children. Consult a doctor before use in pregnancy.

How it works

Lactoferrin is a glycoprotein that binds iron and facilitates its uptake via specific receptors in the intestinal mucosa, improving absorption even in inflammatory states. Vitamin C reduces ferric iron (Fe³⁺) to the more absorbable ferrous form (Fe²⁺).
