Uses
Used topically for the management and prevention of hypertrophic scars and keloids. Silicone-based patches help flatten, soften, and fade raised scars following surgery, burns, or injury.
Do not use if
Avoid use on open wounds, infected skin, or active skin conditions. Not suitable for use near mucous membranes or on irritated skin.
Side effects
Generally well tolerated. Local skin reactions such as mild erythema, pruritus, or skin maceration may occur under the patch, particularly in humid conditions. Rarely, skin breakdown may develop.
Warnings
Clean the scar area and allow to dry before applying the patch. Patch may be trimmed to fit. If skin irritation persists, discontinue use and consult a physician.
How it works
Silicone-based scar therapy creates a moist, semi-occlusive environment over scar tissue, which is thought to regulate fibroblast activity and reduce collagen overproduction. The mechanism may also involve hydration of the stratum corneum and altered cytokine environment.
Storage
Store at room temperature, away from heat and direct sunlight. Keep in original sealed packaging until use.
