Uses
An immunity-boosting supplement used to reduce the duration and severity of common cold symptoms and to support immune system function. Often used in children and adults during cold and flu season.
Do not use if
Hypersensitivity to echinacea or plants of the Asteraceae family. Autoimmune diseases (lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis) — use with caution as echinacea may stimulate immune activity. Not recommended with immunosuppressant therapy.
Side effects
Generally well tolerated. Echinacea may cause gastrointestinal upset or allergic reactions (particularly in patients with plant allergies to Asteraceae family). Excessive zinc can cause nausea and interfere with copper absorption.
Warnings
Do not use for longer than 8–10 weeks continuously without medical advice. Not recommended for use in immunocompromised patients or those on immunosuppressants. Allergic reactions possible in sensitive individuals.
How it works
Echinacea contains alkylamides, polysaccharides, and glycoproteins that stimulate innate immune cells (macrophages, NK cells) and enhance cytokine production. Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) supports neutrophil function and acts as an antioxidant. Zinc is required for T-cell maturation and plays a pivotal role in humoral and cell-mediated immunity.
Storage
Store at room temperature below 25°C, in a dry place away from direct sunlight.
