Uses

This combination of hyoscine butylbromide (an antispasmodic) and paracetamol (an analgesic/antipyretic) is indicated for the symptomatic relief of abdominal cramps and associated pain, including dysmenorrhea, renal colic, biliary colic, and gastrointestinal spasm.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with myasthenia gravis, megacolon, angle-closure glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy with urinary retention, and known hypersensitivity to either component. Paracetamol should be used cautiously in patients with hepatic impairment.

Side effects

Hyoscine component may cause dry mouth, constipation, urinary retention, blurred vision, and tachycardia. Paracetamol is generally well-tolerated; hepatotoxicity may occur with overdose.

Warnings

Avoid exceeding recommended paracetamol doses to prevent hepatotoxicity. Use with caution in elderly patients or those with cardiac disease due to anticholinergic effects of hyoscine.

How it works

Hyoscine butylbromide is a quaternary ammonium anticholinergic that blocks muscarinic receptors in smooth muscle, relieving spasm without significant CNS penetration. Paracetamol inhibits prostaglandin synthesis centrally and peripherally, providing analgesia and antipyresis.
