Uses
Atypical antipsychotic used for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, including manic and depressive episodes.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to quetiapine or formulation components.
Side effects
Somnolence, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, weight gain, and orthostatic hypotension may occur.
Warnings
Associated with increased mortality in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis and risk of suicidal thoughts in some patients.
How it works
Acts mainly through antagonism of dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2 receptors.
