Uses

Used as adjunctive treatment for major depressive disorder, treatment of schizophrenia, and agitation associated with Alzheimer's dementia in selected patients.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to brexpiprazole or any component of the formulation.

Side effects

Weight gain, akathisia, somnolence, dizziness, and gastrointestinal symptoms may occur.

Warnings

May increase mortality in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis and may increase suicidal thoughts in younger patients.

How it works

Atypical antipsychotic with partial agonist activity at dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT1A receptors and antagonist activity at 5-HT2A receptors.
