Uses

Used for symptomatic relief of pain and discomfort in the oral cavity, including teething pain in infants and minor mouth ulcers or irritations. Cetylpyridinium provides antiseptic action while lidocaine provides local anesthesia.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to lidocaine, amide-type local anesthetics, or cetylpyridinium chloride. Should not be swallowed.

Side effects

Generally well tolerated. May cause transient local numbness, mild burning or stinging sensation at the application site. Rarely, systemic absorption of lidocaine can cause CNS or cardiovascular effects if applied excessively.

Warnings

Do not use in large amounts or on extensive areas of the mouth. Keep away from the eyes. Consult a physician if symptoms persist beyond a few days, particularly in infants.

How it works

Lidocaine blocks voltage-gated sodium channels in sensory nerve endings, preventing pain signal transmission and producing local anesthesia. Cetylpyridinium chloride is a quaternary ammonium antiseptic that disrupts bacterial cell membranes and reduces oral microbial load.

Storage

Store at room temperature (15–25°C), away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
