Uses

This combination is used as an oral antiseptic mouthwash to reduce oral bacteria, plaque, and gingivitis. Chlorhexidine provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial action, clove oil contributes analgesic and antimicrobial properties, and propolis offers anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects.

Do not use if

Avoid in patients with known hypersensitivity to chlorhexidine, clove oil, propolis, or bee products. Not recommended for use in young children who cannot control swallowing reflexes.

Side effects

Common side effects include tooth and tongue staining with prolonged use, altered taste sensation, and mild mucosal irritation. Rare hypersensitivity reactions may occur. Clove oil may cause local sensitization with repeated exposure.

For oral use only — do not swallow. Not a substitute for regular dental care. Prolonged use may cause staining; professional teeth cleaning may be needed. Consult a dentist if oral symptoms persist.

How it works

Chlorhexidine binds to bacterial cell membranes disrupting their integrity, providing bactericidal and bacteriostatic activity across a wide microbial spectrum. Eugenol from clove oil inhibits prostaglandin synthesis and provides local analgesia. Propolis flavonoids inhibit bacterial enzyme activity and reduce inflammation.
