Uses
Used to prevent and treat iron deficiency anemia. Ferrous bisglycinate (iron glycinate chelate) is a highly bioavailable form of iron with improved gastrointestinal tolerability compared to conventional iron salts.
Do not use if
Contraindicated in patients with iron overload conditions (e.g., hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis), hemolytic anemia not associated with iron deficiency, or known hypersensitivity to any component.
Side effects
Better tolerated than other iron salts. May cause mild nausea, dark stools, or mild constipation, though less frequently than ferrous sulfate. Allergic reactions are rare.
Warnings
Keep iron-containing products out of reach of children — accidental overdose is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in young children. Do not use concomitantly with antacids or tetracyclines without medical advice, as absorption may be reduced.
How it works
Ferrous bisglycinate is a chelated form of iron where ferrous iron (Fe²⁺) is bound to two glycine molecules. This chelate structure protects iron from forming insoluble complexes in the gut, enabling absorption via a peptide transporter pathway in addition to the classical DMT-1 route, resulting in higher bioavailability and reduced gastrointestinal side effects.
Storage
Store at room temperature in a dry place, away from heat and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
