Uses

Fesoterodine is indicated for the treatment of overactive bladder (OAB) in adults with symptoms of urge urinary incontinence, urgency, and frequency. It is also indicated for neurogenic detrusor overactivity in pediatric patients aged 6 years and older weighing more than 25 kg.

Do not use if

Contraindicated in patients with urinary retention, gastric retention, uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma, and hypersensitivity to fesoterodine or tolterodine. Not recommended in patients with severe bladder outlet obstruction.

Side effects

The most common adverse effects are dry mouth, constipation, urinary tract infections, dry eyes, and dyspepsia. Urinary retention and decreased gastrointestinal motility may occur. Angioedema has been reported rarely.

Warnings

Use with caution in patients with bladder outlet obstruction, decreased gastrointestinal motility, controlled narrow-angle glaucoma, myasthenia gravis, or severe renal or hepatic impairment. Angioedema requires prompt discontinuation.

How it works

Fesoterodine is rapidly hydrolyzed after oral administration to its active metabolite, 5-hydroxymethyl tolterodine, which is a competitive muscarinic receptor antagonist. It reduces detrusor muscle contractions by blocking M2 and M3 muscarinic receptors in the bladder.

Storage

Store at controlled room temperature. Protect from moisture.
