Uses
Indicated for bowel cleansing before colonoscopy and other diagnostic procedures. May also be used as a laxative under medical supervision.
Do not use if
Severe renal impairment, gastrointestinal obstruction, ileus, bowel perforation, toxic colitis, or hypersensitivity.
Side effects
Diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, dehydration, electrolyte disturbances, or dizziness may occur.
Warnings
Ensure adequate hydration and monitor for fluid or electrolyte abnormalities, especially in patients with renal disease.
How it works
Sodium picosulfate stimulates colonic peristalsis, while magnesium citrate formed from magnesium oxide and citric acid acts as an osmotic laxative.
